Winter Magic at Cairngorm Lodges: Cosy Fires & Frosty Forest Walks
Where Winter comes to life… when the frost settles over the Howe of Cromar and the peaks of Lochnagar and Morven turn white, Royal Deeside transforms into a peaceful winter sanctuary. Escape the festive rush and retreat to a private woodland lodge where the only sound is the crackle of the wood-burning stove
The Ultimate Dog-Friendly Winter Retreat
Winter is the time to slow down. Our luxury lodges are designed for warmth and comfort, providing the perfect “hygge” experience for you and your four-legged family members.
- Fireside Snuggles: Every lodge features a powerful wood-burning stove—the heart of your winter stay. We provide the logs; you provide the tired dogs.
- Secluded Luxury: Enjoy the stillness of the Scots Pine forest from your private decking, perhaps with a hot chocolate in hand as you watch for winter wildlife.
- Direct Booking Perk: Winter is the season of the “Slow Break.” Book directly for our 2026 Winter Reset offers, featuring late check-outs and seasonal welcome treats.
Crisp Winter Walks & “Paws” for Coffee
While the high peaks may be snow-capped, the low-level walks around Tarland, Aboyne and Ballater are breath-taking in the winter light. After your walk, Royal Deeside’s famous hospitality awaits.
- The Drummy Woods & Stone Circle Walk: A gentle 4km loop from Tarland village. The Tomnaverie Stone Circle is particularly atmospheric on a clear, frosty winter morning.
- Muir of Dinnet & Burn o’ Vat: Just minutes away, the “Vat” is a spectacular geological wonder that feels even more magical in the winter chill.
- Cambus O’ May Forest Trails: Wander through ancient pines and cross the iconic suspension bridge—one of the most photographed spots in the Cairngorms.
